FOURTEENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR A
8th/9th July 2017

Dear Parishioner,

14th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year A) - Matthew 11: 25 - 30

Where we go wrong is that we bring along some ready-made idea of God, wherever we may have learned it, and then we try and make Jesus Christ fit in with our idea of God. If we take the idea of a revelation of God in Christ seriously, then we must be willing to have our idea of God corrected and even revolutionised by what we learn in Jesus Christ. In other words we cannot fit Christ into some previously established theistic understanding of the world. We have to move in the opposite direction, and this means that it is through Christ that we have to understand God and his relation to the world, so far as we can understand those matters.

John Macquarrie, the Humility of God.

Today is Sea Sunday. When we have the opportunity to remember and pray for seafarers, their families and all who support them. We have a second collection with all funds raised going to the Apostleship of the Sea to support their work. It is a day of remembrance, prayer and celebration, and an opportunity to think about and thank those seafarers who work tirelessly through the year bringing us good we often take for granted.

We pray for our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life. Amen.
