TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD (YEAR A)
5th/6th August 2017

Dear Parishioner,

Today we celebrate the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. The Gospel reading from Matthew (17: 1 - 9) comes immediately after the prophecy of Jesus' approaching passion and death. The moment of Transfiguration is a moment of revelation for the disciples. The disciple is not to remain on this mountain, he is not to build his tent on this spot, he is instead to take up his cross and follow the Lord along the road of suffering in life. All of us are asked to take up the cross of Christ daily in our lives and so give witness of our faith to those of our community, friends and acquaintances.

Christ died for us in bitter shame, but now he lives in power and might; his fire unquenched, his vital flame fills the entire world with joy and light. (From an Easter hymn)

Please pray for me as I pray for you.

Deacon Kevin
