FOURTEENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C
7th July 2019
Dear Parishioner,
On this the Fourteenth Sunday of the Year (C) Jesus sent out his disciples as bearers of peace,
healing and the good news of salvation to others. We must first possess these gifts before we can share them with
others. The First Reading (Is 66: 10-14) is part of a poem written after the return from the Babylonian exile. It
paints a glowing picture of the blessings God will bestow on Jerusalem and its inhabitants. It likens Jerusalem to a
mother who lovingly nurses her children. It foreshadows the blessing that will result from the coming of the Kingdom of
God with Jesus (Luke 10:1-12,17-20).
On Thursday, July 11th, we keep the feast of St. Benedict, Abbot, and patron of Europe. He is honoured as the father of
western monasticism. He was born at Nursia, Italy, and died at Monte Cassino. The earliest life of Benedict is found in
St. Gregory's Dialogues. Please pray for all who follow the rule of St. Benedict.
God bless you all,
Deacon Kevin.
