TWENTY-FIFTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C
22nd September 2019
Dear Parishioner,
On this Twenty-Fifth Sunday of the Year the theme is choosing between God and Money.
Of all the idols people worship of money is probably the most notable. Jesus says "you cannot be the slave both of
God and of money".
In the first reading the prophet Amos (8: 4 - 7) condemns the exploitation of the poor.
In the second reading from Timothy, God wants everyone to be saved. We should pray for everyone, but especially for
those who bear the responsibility of public office, for our Bishop Alan and all clergy that they serve God's people
faithfully and with love.
In the Gospel from Luke (16: 1 - 13) Jesus shows how greed for money can ruin a person, and insists that we can't
serve both God and money.
I assure you all of my prayers daily and remain your servant in Christ,
Deacon Kevin.

From Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre This year our community theme is CLIMATE CHANGE - a crucial
issue of our time of which Pope Francis has said a great deal. Addressing world leaders, he declared a global
"climate emergency", warning of the dangers of global heating and that a failure to act urgently to reduce
greenhouse gases being "a brutal act of injustice toward the poor and future generations". Our first
session on the theme is on Sunday 6 October & everyone is welcome to see the 1½ hour film, 'An Inconvenient
Truth'described as 'a wake-up call that cuts through myths & misconceptions to deliver the message that
global warming is a real & present danger', from 2pm at our Colchester house, 72, Howe Close, Colchester, CO4
3XD. The film will be followed by tea & Evening Prayer - finishing around 4.45pm. If you would like to come
please let us know via 01245 604108 or click here to
Email. Thanks. Sisters Moira & Margaret
