TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C
(World Mission Day)
20th October 2019

Dear Parishioner,

Last Sunday, 13th October, Blessed Cardinal John Henry Newman was declared a saint by Pope Francis in Rome. Saint John Henry Newman had a profound sense that God had a plan for his life - and that plan was to become a saint. Although a clergyman he had a prophetic sense of the dignity of lay people and the role of the laity in the life of the Church. His vision was rooted in the idea of an educated and informed laity – tutored in the school of Christ, in scripture, the teaching of the Church and grounded in a liberal education. He said 'God created me to do him some definite service. He has committed some work to me which he has not committed to another. I have my mission.'

Saint John Henry Newman, pray for us.

The theme of today's readings is on prayer. We should pray without ceasing. Prayer and faith are very closely connected. It's because we have faith that we pray. At the same time prayer sustains our faith. We need to pray frequently.

May the example of St. John Henry Newman help us to pray frequently: morning, noon and evening.

God bless you all and pray for me,

Deacon Kevin.

'Red Box' Appeal

This weekend we welcome Ms Catherine Scott to give the five-yearly Appeal. Thank you to all parishioners who already give to the Pope's official charity for overseas mission - Missio - and Britain's own missionary order, the Mill Hill Missionaries, through the Red Box. There will not be a second collection but if you do not currently have a Red Box, please do consider taking one. It would be fantastic if every home had a Red Box to help care for our Church family throughout the world. You can find more information or set up a Direct Debit online at missio.org.uk/about-apf
